During the planning process, we engaged clinicians and staff so that they had the opportunity to learn about why we were making this change, share their ideas, and ask questions. Some clinicians expressed concerns about immediately sharing clinical information because patients might receive news about their condition without having a provider there to discuss what the results meant in the overall context of their care. Knowing MyChart Bedside would have a significant impact on a patient’s care, we needed to make sure that we were implementing it in a way that was patient-centric. To ensure we were achieving that, we started with a six-month pilot of giving tablets to patient on one unit, before we moved forward with implementing across the organization. This allowed us to try different approaches, gauge impact to both patients and clinicians, gather feedback, and gain clinician trust in the program.
