In the early hours of September 5, 1982 , the quiet suburb of West Des Moines, Iowa, was shattered by the disappearance of 12-year-old paperboy Johnny Gosch. What started as a routine day for young Johnny, delivering newspapers with his trusty red wagon, soon turned into one of the most chilling cases of a missing child in American history. John David Gosch is a figure who has captivated the public’s attention for decades. His disappearance in 1982 at the age of 12 sparked a widespread search effort and ignited discussions about child abduction and exploitation. To this day, his case remains unsolved, leaving many questions unanswered. Gosch ’s case was one of the first to be highlighted in the public awareness campaign involving missing children, with his face appearing on milk cartons. Despite extensive investigation, as of. Authorities initially treated the case as that of a runaway but his parents were adamant that he was abducted or that foul play was involved. Witnesses told authorities that they viewed John talking to an unidentified male in a blue two-tone Ford Fairmunt. On September 5 , 1982, 12-year-old Johnny Gosch vanished while running his newspaper route in West Des Moines, Iowa. Over 40 years later, the case remains unsolved. After AMW aired the episode, Noreen Gosch allegedly received a 14-page letter from a guy named “Jimmy,” who gave detailed information about Johnny. In March 1997, Johnny’s mother claimed she received a visit from her son, and he allegedly told her what had happened to him. On July 1 , 1984 , a bill she authored — the Johnny Gosch Bill — was passed into Iowa law.
